19 Oct

Tanza has a monthly visit to the vet. On the 17th September he was 8.6kg and on 15th October he was 10.8kg! A 2kg weight increase per month clearly shows how fast he's growing.

Teeth remain super sharp but the milk teeth are slowly being replaced by adult teeth. His favourite chews are a section of reindeer antler, cut lengthwise, and a bar of Yak milk which is astonishingly solid. They're both expensive (£5 - £10 depending on size), but are absolute favourites to chew.

In early October, Tanza came down to Alfriston in Sussex, and from there we went down to the coast at Cuckmere with the superb view of the white Seven Sisters cliffs. He had two firsts there – seeing his first sheep which entranced him, and the sea, which rather astonished him. He just managed to skip out of the way as the waves rolled in.

Tanza fascinated by Blackface sheep – the 1st sheep he's seen

Tanza's 1st experience of the sea – not sure about those waves at all!

The Seven Sisters in the background. Tanza had no problems at all, running on pebbles.

Puppy training progresses quite well. He's still reluctant with the Lie Down although he behaves better than the other three dogs in the class, walking well on my LHS in the 'Close' position, and sitting reasonably well beside me when we're not moving.

He remains an absolute charmer and causes other dog walkers to always stop and exclaim at how beautiful he is. His favourite activity in the whole world is playing with another puppy (or much larger dog). He races round in circles, chasing and chasing. The problem is, he's supposed to only have 5 minutes / month of age of exercise per day. He's now 4.5 months so should be having just 20 minutes of gentle walking each day. This is effectively impossible unless I keep him on the lead all the time, which is a shame in a large field. I am trying to anticipate a meeting with another dog and slip the lead on him in time, but he sometimes sees a 'new friend' before I do – and he's off!

I've got a new harness for him now, made by Hunter which is miles better than the previous fiddly harness I'd bought. It slips on very easily, secures with one strong clip, and – above all – has a large ring standing up proud from his back which is so much easier to catch and clip onto.
